     I love the saying, "I'd rather people know my real age than tell them I'm younger and have them think, "She must have had a hard life." You've seen those people, the ones whose faces are lined with years of struggle, bitterness and bondage, whose eyes are dulled by seeing too much bad and too little good, whose postures broadcast they're dominated by a less-than-kind master.
     In My Utmost for His Highest, Mr. Chambers calls us to take a hard look for any less-than-kind masters to whom we're yielding. Being a slave to public opinion wears us out with all the scurrying it takes to keep up with the Joneses. As a slave to money, we earn ourselves edgy ethics and poor relationships. Yielding to any substance - from food to drugs - transforms health into hazard while anger drives out beauty in favor of bitterness. Vanity and pride promise glory but instead they steal our joy and betray us at every opportunity.
"Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, 
you are slaves to the one whom you obey -- whether you are slaves to sin, 
which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?" 
Romans 6:16
Only one Master gives instead of demands, brings life from death, touches us with healing instead of harshness. Jesus reigns alone as the Loving Lord who pours life into us instead of draining the life out of us, Who shares His Power and Glory with those who obey Him.  
"And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into His likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit." 
2 Corinthians 3:18


"So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ . . ." 
Ephesians 3:17-19


Lord Jesus, Your Name reigns supreme and equals Love. You commanded and You served. You called us to leave everything for You and You left everything for us. No one loves us like You do and because of Your great Love, I want to be your slave - chained to You to do Your Will. You're the only Master I ever want to serve  and I want to serve You with all my heart.
