Joyce Kilmer, 1886–1918

            Trees

I THINK that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the sweet earth's flowing breast;

A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

A tree that may in summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.

Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

     Jesus Calling focuses on the role of the tree that introduced the sin that separated man from God.
     "The woman said to the serpent, 'We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, 'You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.'

   'You will not surely die,' the serpent said to the woman. 'For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.'
     When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.'" Genesis 3:2-6
    My Utmost for His Highest surveys the wondrous cross, the triumphant tree on which God Himself removed the separating sin.
"He himself bore our sins in His body on the tree
so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness;
by His wounds you have been healed."
1 Peter 2:24
     Simple but profound. Two trees, one God. Satan hovered and slithered near each one tempting, tempting, tempting people to be blinded to the simplicity of God's profound and protective Love because misery loves company
O Mighty Cross! O What a Savior!
"I will sacrifice a thank offering to you and call on the name of the LORD." Psalm 116:17
Lord God, I thank You with my words, with all my heart, and with my life. Thank You and keep the blinders from my eyes. My sin cost You dearly.
In the Name of Jesus who paid it all!
"But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin."
1 John 1:7
