Saturday, April 16, 2011 - Thanking Outside the Box

Can you imagine having a fixer-choleric-Type A-OCD personality who's gifted with prophetic visions and dreams on a regular basis?
Thank You, God, for not "blessing" me
with that particular combination
of gifts and challenges.
How about living in a country where the dessert plate includes chocolate covered insects?
Thank You, God, for casting my lot
in a community where chocolate
is fully appreciated just as it is.
Or, living in Europe when the Black Plague hit with no medical knowledge to combat the deadly disease?
Thank You, God, for medical researchers, technology,
MRIs, CTs, therapy, treatments, doctors, nurses,
pre-natal vitamins, vaccines, and flu shots.

How about being a Protestant during the Spanish Inquisition or an aristocrat during the French Revolution?
Thank You God, for placing me in a generation and nation
where I can live the life You've called me to live
without fear of torture or imprisonment or losing my head.
Some days we may feel too baffled by our circumstances to be thankful for them just yet. That's the time to start "thanking" outside the box. I'm finding reasons to be thankful this morning, both in my circumstances and just for fun. Our Holy God knows what He's doing. He's put each of us in the time and place where He can best use us and it's time to rise up and thank Him.
"Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." 1 Thessalonians 5:18

"And they were calling to one another: 'Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of His glory." Isaiah 6:3

"We live by faith, not by sight." 2 Corinthians 5:7
