Froday, June 10, 2011 -Promise Sandwich

"So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you;
seek and you will find;
 knock and the door will be opened to you.
For everyone who asks receives;
he who seeks finds;
and to him who knocks, the door will be opened."
Luke 11:9
These promises are sandwiched between the Lord's Prayer ("Your Kingdom come, Your Will be done on earth as it is in heaven.") and Jesus' teaching that we can expect good things from our good Father because even human dads want to give good gifts to their children (Luke 11:11-13).  When we keep spreading our earnest and persistent prayers on the wholesomeness of praying for God's Will and top it off with the loving goodness of our heavenly Father toward us, His children, we've created a classic that satisfies our faith.  Unfortunately I pray too often without truly seeking God's Will or by questioning His willingness to answer my requests. When that happens, my persistence tends to fall out of the middle and I wonder why my faith is weak.
Father, You provide but we fall short in our prayers - either what we pray for or how willing we are to keep asking, keep seeking, and keep knocking.  Help us follow through and fill up the middle with prayers that honor You and Your Will. Send revival to Your people and salvation to those who've not recognized Your Lordship yet.
In the Name of Jesus, Promise Maker, Promise Keeper
