When Tom and I were engaged I did what every engaged girl does and practiced writing "Mr. and Mrs." to see how it looked and felt to be the "Mrs." to my "Mr." I wrote my future name in calligraphy, print and longhand. I wrote it in every color of the rainbow and on paper of every shape and size. However, after we married, it still took a while to respond and feel comfortable when people called me "Mrs. Noland" or "Robin Noland."
Isaiah 9:6 contains several names for Jesus that look beautiful on banners, plaques and Christmas cards, but His names are more than elegant groups of letters They reveal timeless truths about His character and power as Prophet, Priest and King. I thank Him for the courage it took to submit Himself to a dangerous world as the swaddled Baby Mary held, kissed and pondered. I thank Him, for growing into the Teacher and Preacher of wise, wonderful counsel. I praise Him for His mighty, miracle-working power as the Son of God, the same power that held Him back from calling heavenly fire down on people who abused or refused Him. One day He'll ride through the skies on His white horse to rescue us and take us home to live "happily ever after," but I don't want to miss the abundance of abundant life here on earth by leaving Him in the stable as either a Baby or a Prince Charming waiting on His white horse until "one day." For our present reality, He's our everyday Hero who is wherever we are, to be whatever we need.
Praise Your Name, Jesus! Praise Your many Names because they speak Truth of You. Thank You, Child in the manger for caring and coming to open heaven's gates. Thank You Son of God for living to show us our Eternal Father. Thank you Mighty God for turning the world upside down in Love. Thank You Prince of Peace that You truly want each and every one of the billions of people on earth to know You and Your Peace. May we not stop at admiring Your Names but help us draw on the Power of each one to accomplish Your purposes on earth.
In the many Names of Jesus!
"For to us a Child is born,
to us a Son is given,
and the government will be on His shoulders.
And He will be called
Wonderful Counselor,
Mighty God,
E v e r l a s t i n g F a t h e r,
Prince of Peace."
Isaiah 9:6
"On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, 'Peace be with you!' After He said this, He showed them His hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. Again Jesus said, 'Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you." John 20:19-21
