Thursday, May 19, 2011 - "Beep, Beep!"

Wile E. Coyote is the acme of "resilience, persistence and misfortune" among cartoon characters. Every Saturday morning of my childhood I saw his schemes to eat Roadrunner not only fail but backfire painfully. In spite of Wile E. Coyote's strong bond with the ACME supply company and his experiments with a wide range of complicated (but not foolproof) devices, Roadrunner raced on down the road stopping only long enough to taunt him with a "Beep, Beep."
Unfortunately for believers, Satan is smarter and more wily than this cartoon coyote. His arsenal of faith-crushers and testimony-stoppers may send straight and narrow "road-runners" into temporary ditches or off on the occasional detour, but in one way all his schemes backfire. While Satan attempts to convince us he can damage our testimonies enough to separate us from God, every believer who rises up, brushes off and gets back in the race is a "beep, beep" in his face. Jesus crushed Satan's slithery head by dying and rising again and today we can drop the anvil of Truth and Power on this persistent foe's efforts to destroy us by trusting and living in the victory of this promise:
"Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?
Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?
. . No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
For I am convinced that
neither death nor life,
neither angels nor demons,
neither the present nor the future,
nor any powers,
neither height nor depth,
nor anything else in all creation,
will be able to separate us from the love of God
that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Romans 8:35, 37-39
BEEP! BEEP!
Father, praises to You for the deep love with which You hold us. You swaddle us in a love that won't let us go. You love us when we're ditch diving and detouring. You love us cleaned up and sitting in church. You love us when we're giddy and when we're depressed. You loved us in our most humiliating and shameful moments and You'll love us when we stand before You in our greatest spiritual victories. Our own crazy thoughts and stupid choices can't keep Your love from touching us. Our pride, as hateful as it is to You, doesn't stop You from loving us. Show us how to live today in the Great love of our Great God!
In the Name of Jesus Whom the world thought You deserted for a time, only to discover Him seated at Your Right Hand.
