Friday, October 21, 2011 - Hospitality

"He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty."
Psalm 91:1
They're here. They arrived last night around 7:00p.m. to walk through our doors, take the tour of the house and move into their rooms at the end of the hall. I couldn't wait for them to see "Addy's room" with her new custom-sewn quilt that makes Joseph's coat of many colors look lack-luster. In addition, I had filled a box with memorabilia for Julie to plunder, filled the backyard pots with flowers to make their stay feel more "vacationy," decorated the porch for fall, and filled the fridge with homecooked favorites. Tom had cleaned the carpet and prepared the hot tub and taken care of a million other details to prepare for his baby girl and her family. To put it mildly, we rolled out the red carpet and flung our arms wide to welcome them.
God searches among His people for the red carpets we lay out for Him. He longs to see us open our hearts and lives to Him. What preparations do I make for Him each day? Am I cleaning out and cleaning up for Him?  Have I customized my life to fit His desires, to make Him happy?  He's given us every reason to want Him with us and He's preparing a place for us in heaven, but now, on this earth, it's our turn to be hospitable.

Lord, God, come and make Yourself at home in our hearts, families and churches. We're putting out the welcome mats and rolling out the red carpet. Enter. Cleanse. Heal. Release. Unite. Your Will be done in our hearts and homes as it is in heaven.
In the Name of Jesus, our Brother, Friend and the Host of heaven
